As we enter the start of autumn, now is an amazing time for a quiet and scenic staycation in Scotland — and this lovely seaside town where Outlander was filmed could be perfect.
When the trees turn gold and there is a chill in the air, the only word to describe it is magical. Having less noisy tourists to contend with certainly doesn't hurt either.
The reason why Outlander fans in particular will get a kick out of a trip to Troon is that the seaside destination was a notable filming location for the iconic historical drama. Keen-eyed fans will immediately notice that the town's scenic beach and coastline is where the final scenes of the first season — in which characters Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall set sail for France — were filmed.
Thanks to the town's position along the scenic south Ayrshire coast, there are also plenty of other beauty spots and walks to check out. Perhaps the most unique is the Fullarton Fairy Trail, which is a walk through the idyllic Fullarton Woods — where the trees have been decorated with fairy doors and more.
