Police were alerted to the operation after the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) suffered several attacks at their Job Centre site
A Scots student who made tens of thousands of pounds from creating malicious software to sabotage websites has been jailed.
Tagore supplied his customers with an online tool to carry out Distributed Denial of Services attacks on systems that forced users to take their websites offline. He also provided technical support to those who bought the software. The court heard how police were alerted to Tagore’s operation after the Department of Work and Pensions suffered several ‘DDOS’ attacks at their Job Centre site in Braintree, Essex between May and August in 2022. Police identified a suspect whose mobile phone was found to be running a programme called 'Myra', which was running two different attack ‘commands’ towards the DWP computer system.
The ‘normal’ package claimed to be for beginners whereas the VIP offer would give users a ‘larger network increase and complex vector structures'. The court was told how officers carried out a search of the house Tagore shared with his parents in November that year.
