He had been languishing on a waiting list for surgery to straighten his spine, which was crushing his organs and causing him excruciating pain. The growths caused scoliosis and the spinal curve kept worsening. He recovered well from the op but because of his lack of bone density, the hooks holding the steel rod in his back came away and needed to be reattached.
Top news stories today It will take six months before he is fully recovered, so the family will be at home this summer to concentrate on getting him back on his feet. He may not be strong enough to begin his last year at primary school in August, but mum Natalie hopes it won’t be long before he rejoins his classmates.
