McTominay’s ability to play anywhere Clarke asks him has made him an invaluable member of a squad that has come so far and is so near to qualification for Germany next summer. And Carver expects him to be front and centre of the effort in Seville on Thursday. “After all the disappointment he’s had, to be at a club the size of Man Utd - one of the biggest in the world - and to go into that atmosphere and do what he did under that much pressure, shows us all his temperament.
Another midfielder getting rave reviews from his club’s fans is Lewis Ferguson, who captained Bologna against AC Milan at the weekend, yet hasn’t been able to force his way into Scotland’s midfield. Carver reckons it’s only a matter of time.
