THE Scottish Government has officially confirmed that Highly Protected Marine Areas (HPMAs) will not be rolled out in Scotland.
In June, Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Just Transition Mairi McAllan announced that the proposal to rollout HPMAs in 10% of Scotland’s seas by 2026 would not be progressed.
Now, McAllan has once again confirmed that the policy will not be progressed, with no plans to rollout HPMAs in any of Scotland's waters.on Tuesday, she said: ““In response to the findings of the consultation, and as I set out in Parliament earlier this year, the proposal to implement Highly Protected Marine Areas across 10% of Scotland’s seas by 2026 will not be progressed.
"As a priority this includes completing management measures for our existing Marine Protected Area network and protecting our Priority Marine Features. Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
