Anas Sarwar said Labour was now a 'party ready for government' and urged Scots to help remove the Conservatives from power
After those who said they would not vote or did not know were removed, this translated as a vote share of 35.4 per cent for Labour and 38.2 per cent for the SNP.
The YouGov survey of 1,239 people in Scotland over the age of 16 was carried out between 10 and 15 February,In a speech to his party’s spring conference in Edinburgh, Mr Sarwar said the days of Labour being regarded as “the most divided party in Scottish politics” were gone. “We’ve still got a lot of work to do to regain the trust of the people. But I’m proud that we are once again a party ready for government.”
The First Minister had been planning to fight 2024 election on the single issue of independence and treat the result as a “de facto” referendum, but the policy could now be scrapped following the change of leader.
