Scottish Labour ’s newest MP has backed Keir Starmer over Anas Sarwar in the row over the conflict in Gaza.
The UK Labour leader believes there should be a “humanitarian pause”, but has said a ceasefire would embolden Hamas. He was asked about what would happen at the end of a “humanitarian pause“ and whether innocent people would continue to bear the brunt of military action. Shanks responded: “Appreciate the q and agree that the Palestinian people are not Hamas and don’t deserve to suffer for Hamas’ barbarity. I see a humanitarian pause as a means of getting emergency aid to those in Gaza who need it. It won’t end the conflict but it will save lives.
