An SNP MSP has penned a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating Queen's Park on their historic 1-0 victory against Rangers in the Scottish Cup. The motion commends the team's achievement and recognizes the significance of the win for Scotland's oldest football club.
An SNP Member of the Scottish Parliament ( MSP ), James Dornan, has put forward a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating Queen's Park on their 'earth-shattering victory' against Rangers . Dornan, whose Cathcart constituency encompasses Hampden Park, has extended an invitation to fellow members of the Holyrood parliament to endorse his message to Scotland's oldest football club.
Queen's Park achieved one of the most significant upsets in recent football history when they emerged victorious with a 1-0 scoreline at Ibrox on Sunday during the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. This marked the first time the Spiders had triumphed over Rangers in the nation's premier knockout competition since 1882. It was also the first instance where the Govan club had ever suffered a defeat in a Scottish Cup tie against a team from a lower division. Dornan's motion states, 'Parliament congratulates Scotland’s oldest football club, Queen’s Park, which is based in the Cathcart constituency, on its Fifth Round Scottish Cup tie victory over Rangers, at Ibrox Park, to progress to the next round of the cup'. He encourages MSPs to acknowledge, 'That it is a seismic victory in the history of the Scottish Cup and Queen's Park; congratulates the manager, Callum Davidson and all his players, notably Calum Ferrie on a career defining last minute penalty save and Seb Drozd on his match-winning goal; notes that this is the first time ever that Rangers FC has lost at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup to a team from a lower division, and wishes Queen's Park FC well as the team takes further steps towards a potential cup victory for the first time in 132 years and for an 11th occasion overall.' This recent motion echoes a previous one Dornan introduced at Holyrood to criticize what he characterized as a 'culture of secrecy' within the Scottish Football Association (SFA). This occurred when he tabled a parliamentary motion regarding the VAR controversy following a match between Celtic and Rangers in January of the previous year. The MSP also lent his support to calls from Rangers for the SFA to release audio recordings of conversations between officials during a contentious moment in the match concerning an alleged handball against Alistair Johnston
