POLICE have issued a warning to hillwalkers planning on tackling an “easy Munro”.

Officers from the Police Scotland Tayside Mountain Rescue Team are regularly called upon to help the lost and injured across Scotland’s countryside.Other “hotspots” include the Ben Lawers range near Loch Tay and Mayar & Driesh at Glen Doll.

Constable Morgan, team leader with Police MRT shared his experience of speaking to those who have required rescue in the past. "Very often, when the incident has involved the likes of Ben Chonzie or Mount Keen for example, people tell me that they read online before heading out, that it was supposed to be an ‘easy Munro.’ or someone had recommended it to them, saying ‘you’ll not get lost up there’.

“A final thought…if the visibility was suddenly reduced on a hill and failed to clear, would you know exactly where you are and what to do next? If not, what steps could you take before you venture out to give yourself confidence around your navigation ability?”We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories.
