Scottish Power is offering half-price electricity to its customers this winter and you could save as much as £300 - but there is a catch
Scottish Power is set to ease the burden on households by offering half-price electricity this winter, with potential savings of up to £300. The discount is available to smart meter customers every weekend until April 2025. The energy company's half-price weekend deal aims to help tackle soaring energy bills and is part of a broader strategy to lower energy consumption during peak hours. This in turn facilitates more sustainable energy production.
This initiative could lead to monthly savings of about £25 if customers adapt their energy use out of peak times. Andrew Ward, Chief Executive of Scottish Power's Customer Business, commented: "Through half-price weekends, we hope to raise awareness of the benefits of using less electricity at peak times and encourage shifting usage to other days where they can."
The energy price cap is set to rise by 1.2% in January, pushing the average household bill up to £1,738. This marks a £21 increase from the October price cap of £1,717. Scottish Power's scheme could potentially alleviate this financial strain for thousands of its customers. However, the savings will vary based on individual energy usage.
