A passenger on a London to Aberdeen train journey sparked a debate online after refusing to relinquish her reserved priority seat to a pensioner. The incident highlights the ongoing discussion surrounding travel etiquette and the allocation of priority seating on public transport.
A Scottish woman has sparked a debate online after refusing to give up her reserved priority seat on a train to a pensioner. The incident occurred on a London to Aberdeen journey, where the woman had paid extra for a first-class ticket with a designated, individual seat. Upon boarding, she discovered her allocated seat was also marked as a priority seat. A woman in her 60s demanded the seat, citing her age.
The passenger, however, stood her ground, explaining she had booked the seat in advance and was unwilling to move. She offered the woman the option of speaking to a staff member to find an alternative seat. A train guard eventually intervened, informing the older woman that her first-class ticket didn't include a reserved seat, leaving her without guaranteed seating. Despite attempts to negotiate a compromise, the passenger who had booked the seat remained firm in her decision. The guard eventually found the older woman a seat in standard class. The incident has ignited a discussion about travel etiquette and the responsibility of train companies in allocating priority seats
