Police say they're determined to drive out the gangs causing misery in Wigan
Police have vowed to crack down on organised crime gangs who see Wigan as an 'easy target'. In recent years gangs from Merseyside have established a foothold in the town, taking advantage of its location on the fringes of both Manchester and Liverpool.
"Organised and serious crime gangs exploit any opportunity. If they see somewhere as a soft touch, that's how they will embed in the community." Since May, police have made 31 arrests for offences linked to organised crime, seized large amounts of crack cocaine and heroin and shut down 38 properties. At 6am on Friday police raided a house in Worsley Hall on the outskirts of the town centre, an area known to have a problem with county lines drug dealing.
