Everton analysis from Chris Beesley after the 2-1 home defeat to Luton Town in the Premier League
We all know what Idrissa Gueye does well, he first showed that for Everton on a regular basis some seven years ago but shooting has never been his forte and there was a lamentably predictable conclusion when an inviting chance by the edge of the Luton Town area came his way when the game was still goalless.
In his first spell at Goodison Park, Gueye was hardly prolific, scoring four times in 108 games but second time around, in a side who are struggling, we haven’t even seen a hint of anything like that. It’s now 43 matches that he has drawn a blank in and there were groans of frustration when an inviting chance from the edge of the area fell his way with the game goalless, only for his effort to fly off target.
At the start of the 2021/22 season, with fans back en masse for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, Calvert-Lewin struck against Southampton, Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion… then the quadriceps injury that would keep him sidelined until the turn of the calendar year struck.
