A village primary school is looking for a baby to play the role of a newborn Jesus in its nativity.

It has become a tradition for Brimscombe Primary School in Gloucestershire to host a 'roving nativity' in collaboration with members of the Holy Trinity Church and local pub the Ship Inn.

Children from the school act out scenes from the nativity around the village, while singing carols and spreading Christmas cheer. However, this year they have been unable to find a baby to play the starring role of the newborn Jesus. "Normally, one of the children at Brimscombe School has a sibling the right age to be the baby Jesus," said Rev Peter Francis.Rev Francis explained that by having a real baby, they are able to bring the nativity play "to life"."We're so used to nativity stories and so we like to introduce something a bit surprising every year."

Past nativity plays have featured live animals and one year, the Three Kings turned up on motorbikes.County lines: Police raids lead to 95 arrestsHeadlines: Otter spotted in Bath river
