First responders in Arlington, Virginia, are continuing their search efforts after a plane and helicopter collision in the Potomac River on January 29th, 2025. There were no survivors among the 67 people on board both aircraft. Recovery crews are preparing to lift the plane wreckage out of the water using a crane on Monday morning. The wreckage will then be transported to a hangar for investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Divers are working to map the debris field, which is making the operation challenging.
“We’re going to recover everyone,” said D.C. Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly. “If we knew where they were, though, we would already have them out, so we have some work to do as the salvage operation goes on, and we will absolutely stay here and search until such point as we have everybody.”
