Police have ended searches of the River Dee in connection with the disappearance of sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, but efforts to trace them continue. The sisters vanished from Aberdeen on January 7th and were last seen at Victoria Bridge over the River Dee. Extensive searches were carried out, but the investigation is ongoing with coastal areas still being searched.
Police have ended their searches of the River Dee in connection with the disappearance of sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti after almost three weeks. The sisters, part of a set of triplets, vanished from Aberdeen on Tuesday, January 7. They were last seen on Market Street at Victoria Bridge over the River Dee at around 2.12am. Police confirmed today, after 'extensive and detailed searches' of the river and the Harbour area, the investigation has concluded there.
However, efforts to trace the 32-year-olds are 'ongoing' and coastal areas, north and south of Aberdeen, were still being searched. The last recorded movements of the sisters, originally from Hungary, saw them cross the bridge and turn right onto a footpath next to the river heading towards Aberdeen Boat Club. Detectives later confirmed that the siblings, who were wearing rucksacks, were seen at the same bridge at around 2.50pm the previous day, Monday, January 6. A major hunt was launched in the north east, with extensive searches being carried out of the river, with a police helicopter and dog branch also used. \Officers have said there is nothing to suggest any criminality or suspicious circumstances. Their landlady raised the alarm due to concern about Eliza and Henrietta. Police confirmed she received a strange text message from Henrietta at 2.12am on January 7. At that point, she was told that they would not be returning and then the phone was switched off. All of their possessions were found in the home. Eliza and Henrietta's brother, Joszef, revealed that the family were not aware of their decision to move out of their flat, despite he and his mother having spoken to them in the days and weeks prior to the disappearance. He added everything had seemed normal when they talked. The two sisters arrived in the UK from Hungary six years ago and had been working in Aberdeen since then. Police have looked into their background but everything about it, including their social life, appeared to be perfectly normal. \Superintendent David Howieson said: “The investigation continues to trace Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, who were last seen on Market Street at the Victoria Bridge over the River Dee around 2.12am on Tuesday, 7 January, 2025.
