The city of Seattle just launched a new, fast rescue team to reach people who get into trouble in the water.
The Seattle Fire Department launched its new rescue watercraft on the shores of Lake Washington , it announced Monday, adding two "customized SeaDoos to its marine response capabilities."
Seattle boasts many bodies of water that draw people to enjoy swimming, fishing, boating and other activities near the water. And if something goes wrong, Seattle fire will rush in to rescue people.The SFD’s main waterfront station is Station 5. This station, on saltwater, is home to the Fireboat Leschi , Fireboat 2 and Rescue Boat 5.
The department’s also in fresh water, with Station 3 at Fisherman's Terminal in Ballard. The Fireboat Chief Seattle and Fireboat 1 are stationed here.Other water related emergenciesThis new rescue watercraft, the SFD said, will help firefighters reach people fast and enhance Seattle fire’s ability to save lives.
The Seattle Fire Foundation donated the money needed to get this new rescue watercraft program going. KOMO News is getting a demonstration of the watercraft and will be asking more about the sustainability of the funding for this new watercraft, the jurisdiction it will be used for and more.
