Seattle Police Department (SPD) Chief Adrian Diaz has been hit with another lawsuit.

SPD Captain Eric Greening, a black man, filed the suit alleging that he reported alleged discriminatory practices within the department to Diaz and others in the department and was retaliated against.The suit claims such alleged retaliatory actions have included rejecting Greening's applications for the position of deputy chief and assistance chief and abolishing the Collective Policing Bureau , which Greening led, demoting him from assistant chief to the rank of captain.
Before it was abolished, the CPB comprised of the Community Outreach & Youth Violence Prevention Units, the Executive Protection Detail, the Alternative Response Team, the Crisis Response Team, Civilian Community Service Officers, and Civilian Crime Prevention Coordinators, according to the complaint.
The suit alleges Greening brought several issues of alleged "discrimination and disparate" treatment within SPD to the attention of Diaz and others in the Department in 2021-2023.In a September 2021 meeting with Chief Diaz, Mr. Greening expressed his belief that SPD was discriminating against female and BIPOC officers in terms and conditions of their employment by routinely assigning them to the CPB. The Seattle Police Department is absolutely committed to equity and inclusion in our workplace. SPD received the complaint filed today in King County Superior Court this evening and refers all questions to the Seattle City Attorney’s Office.
