SeaWorld says more and more birds are having to be rescued and treated for starvation and dehydration.Smith is the Rescue Program Curator at SeaWorld San Diego."All of these birds are coming in. They're hungry. They are skinny," she said.

About two weeks ago, Smith started noticing an uptick in calls to their rescue hotline about pelicans looking or acting unusual. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said it does not know exactly why the pelicans cannot find food, but a similar situation happened in 2022.
