Firefighters have been working overnight to deal with another large scale waste fire on Merseyside
It comes as firefighters continue to break down a 10,000-tonne waste pile that started a fire at Canada Dock. After thick smoke was seen across parts of Liverpool, last night, Thursday, July 4, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene just before 10.30 pm. Two fire engines tackled the blaze as people were urged to avoid the area.
Now, there are still three ground monitors being used while numerous grabbers and a dump truck continue to break down the waste pile. The service told the ECHO: “Multi-agency meetings have taken place between MFRS, Environment Agency, Norton and Peel Ports. “There is still a large amount of smoke in the area, so please avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed.”
