It is due to the bridge showing signs of deterioration.
Network Rail has announced that on Sunday, August 13, Monday, August 14, Sunday, August 20, and Monday, August 21, the line from the village to Mount Florida will be shut to allow bridge works to be carried out.
The essential works will replace the abutments and the deck of the bridge which connects the Balgray Reservoir footpath to Springfield Road. While the section of the line is closed, ScotRail has confirmed that a replacement bus service will run between Mount Florida and Neilston and then trains will run from Cathcart to Glasgow.
The rail firm says the closure has been put in place over the two days each time as data shows Saturdays are the most popular day for people to travel, so to reflect this pattern, the closure will be in place on the Sunday and Monday instead of the Saturday and Sunday.
“The new bridge will be both stronger and safer and will provide Dams to Darnley visitors with a walking route to Balgray Reservoir for years to come.”
