The five largest parks in Lower Paxton Township , Dauphin County , now have security cameras.The goal is to deter vandalism.The $100,000 surveillance system will be active 24/7 in Brightbill, George, Koons, Lingle, and Kohl Memorial parks.The township said the push for the cameras happened after someone destroyed the bathrooms at Koons Park last summer, causing $4,000 in damage. And this spring, a driver did donuts on the George Park field, resulting in $10,000 in damage.
'Ultimately we want to capture the individuals in the process of committing these acts and hopefully our residents and our visitors will be able to view this when we put it out on our Crime Watch and give us leads that will lead to their ultimate arrest and prosecution,' said Adam Kosheba, the township's director of public safety.
