Uati Faletolu, 17, who was working as a ride attendant at the Easter Show, had met up with two other teens before the trio became involved in an altercation with another group

For the second year in a row, the Sydney Royal Easter Show has been marred by violence – this time, a stabbing, another in hospital and a third in police custody while those responsible for the killing remain at large.

Police on Tuesday said it wasn’t clear whether the 17-year-old had finished his shift when he was attacked. During the fight, the boy’s friend received a stab wound to the leg, while the other boy, 15, was arrested at the scene andThe violence was witnessed by horrified onlookers in the crowded carnival area of the show, some of whom posted shocking videos of the unfolding drama to social media – including scenes in which one male appears to be striking another multiple times.

But the level of security and crowd behaviour were causing concerns about the event – especially for families with older children attending after dark. Wilton said random bag checks and metal detection already occur at the entrance, and that security would be “ramped up” for the rest of the event.
