With Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic on the lead, the Slovenian men's basketball team had gotten tremendous support from Filipino fans in its three games at the FIBA Basketball World Cup here in Manila.
Slovenia's third and final game in the world meet at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, September 9 was no different despite it being a classification match, a battle for seventh place at that.Pinoy hoops fans still came in droves and packed the venue to cheer for Doncic and the rest of the Slovenian team, practically giving them a home court advantage against Italy.Slovenia head coach Aleksander Sekulic made sure to thank Filipinos for that following his team's 89-85 triumph.
We had amazing support, thanks to the fans who supported us and made us feel like we played at home,' said Sekulic.'I know that it's mostly because of Luka but we take advantage of this. It was a great game. It was a game we wanted to win, obviously. We wanted to finish the tournament with a win.'Slovenia one again banked on Doncic who unleashed a stellar game of 29 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
