An INDOT crew is responding to the scene to inspect State Road 9 bridge for possible damage from the crash.
All lanes of westbound Interstate 70The crash was reported around 5 a.m. April 5 under the State Road 9 overpass, and involved a Chevy Camaro and semi tractor pulling a box-style trailer, the Hancock County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a male from Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the Camaro was not injured. Both vehicles were traveling west on I-70, with the Camaro in the left lane and tractor-trailer in the right lane, when they made contact and lost control.
"The tractor-trailer struck the Camaro, the State Road 9 overpass, and a temporary, concrete barrier wall near the median," a sheriff's department spokesperson said in a statement. As of 9:30 a.m., I-70 westbound remained closed at State Road 9, with traffic being diverted off at State Road 9 and then back on the entrance ramp. Indiana State Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened in westbound lanes of I-70 near Greenfield on April 5, 2024.no structural damage was found.The Camaro driver called 911 after the crash and is cooperating with investigators, the sheriff's department said.
