One victim suffered two fractures to his jaw and another was knocked unconscious
A gang of thugs, one a semi-professional footballer and another who harbours ambitions to box for England, carried out a drunken, savage attack on a rival group in Nottingham city centre. Shocking CCTV played at Nottingham Crown Court showed current Rushall Olympic FC attacking midfielder Sam McLintock, amateur boxer Tommy Ledwidge and their friends Declan Doherty and Callum O’Shaughnessy punch and kick their victims in Victoria Street as revellers filmed the assaults on their phones.
But on the clip matters become violent with the Coventry foursome punching and kicking the Nottingham group in a series of break out fights. Miss Gedzah said: “As a result of the incident suffered a broken jaw which required surgery and needed a metal plate fitted with screws which will need to be in place for 20 years and another man was rendered unconscious on the ground.
McLintock, 23, of Hollyfast Road, currently plays for Rushall Olympic FC but counts Boston United, Telford United and Halifax Town among his former clubs and has no previous convictions of any kind. Laura Coton, his barrister, said: “He was mortified watching his behaviour on the footage.
