The Senate Committee on Public Services will follow a "non-punitive tone" in investigating the technical issues that happened on New Year’s Day and resulted in Philippine airspace shutdown, Senator Grace Poe said Thursday.

The Senate Committee on Public Services will follow a "non-punitive tone" in investigating the technical issues that happened on New Year’s Day and resulted in Philippine airspace shutdown, Senator Grace Poe said Thursday.

"While the loudest call right now may have been for heads to roll, it is proposed that the hearing adopts a non-punitive tone for now especially to technical officers like CAAP engineers if we are to exact the truth behind the incident and prevent the same from happening again. Accountability will follow after laying out the steps to ensure the safety of passengers," she added.

"We’ve been told many different causes – as vague as a technical glitch, the interrupted Uninterrupted Power Supply, an outdated air traffic navigation system, overvoltage, and most recently, a faulty circuit breaker. Sa pagdinig na ito, we seek clarity as to what transpired and what really caused this New Year’s Day fiasco," she said.

"Wala pang isang buwan nang magsalita ako tungkol sa kalunos-lunos na estado ng air transportation sa bansa pero andito na naman tayo, talking about old problems at the start of a new year. Parang masyado naman atang in-embrace ng NAIA ranking nito na third most stressful airport in the Southeast Asia and Oceania region," she added.
