Senior Coalition women have tried to stop an abortion debate, which is now consuming the Queensland election campaign.
The Coalition’s senior female frontbenchers are seeking to shut down a national debate over abortion laws, labelling it a concern held by “fringe parties” as the controversial issue engulfs Queensland’s state election campaign.
Coalition MPs Jane Hume and Sussan Ley have shut down a federal debate on abortion after colleague Jacinta Nampijinpa Price said it should be on the national agenda.The issue has been raised by the Queensland Liberal National Party’s in that state’s election campaign, but the federal opposition frontbenchers said abortion laws were firmly a matter for states and territories and not on Peter Dutton’s agenda.
