The official was stood down after Liberal Party frontbencher Alister Henskens alleged there was a “strong circumstantial case” she had bought a $3.8 million home based on access to planned housing reforms.

The state’s shadow attorney-general and a leading opponent of the Minns government’s housing reforms who accused a senior female NSW public servant of using inside information to bolster the value of her home has refused to back down, despite the woman being cleared by the ICAC.

In February, Henskens told the parliament he had “credible evidence” she had used “confidential information” in an attempt to convince neighbours to join a property syndicate that would seek to bolster the value of their homes as a result of the government’s signature housing policies. “During the course of its investigation, the commission obtained and reviewed relevant records using its powers pursuant to section 21 and section 22 of the ICAC Act, conducted a number of interviews, including with , and conducted forensic reviews of electronic devices,” it said.

The accusations made by Henskens had led to criticism of the probity arrangements in place around the government’s signature housing reforms, and Planning Minister Paul Scully seized on the ICAC’s decision.
