Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, chief of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops, was killed outside an apartment building on Ryazansky Prospekt, some 7 km (4 miles) southeast of the Kremlin early on Tuesday morning. His assistant was also killed, Russia’s investigative committee said. Russia’s Investigative Committee said it had “opened a criminal case into the murder of two servicemen”.“Investigative actions and operational search activities are being carried out aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime.”The UK placed sanctions on Kirillov in October, accusing the commander of overseeing the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine and acting as a “significant mouthpiece for Kremlin disinformation”
