Here's everything older people could get to help out with household costs during the financial year
The Department for Work and Pensions is issuing £1,500 across seven cost of living payments and cash boosts to millions of people across the UK.
Crucially, being on Pension Credit - even if you only get a small amount - opens doors to a number of other discounts and could write off your entire council tax bill. It is also an eligible benefit for three cost of living payments through this financial year, as well as the Warm Home Discount and Cold Weather Payments, BirminghamLive reports
In order to be eligible, people had to be receiving one of the following: income-based Jobseeker's Allowance , income-related Employment and Support Allowance , Income Support, Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit. 3. £300 DWP cost of living payment - autumn A second payment for people who claim Pension Credit and other means-tested benefits is being made sometime this autumn. To get it, you will need to be receiving one of the following: income-based Jobseeker's Allowance , income-related Employment and Support Allowance , Income Support, Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit.
The eligibility rules were changed last year. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero now decides who qualifies for the discount, based partly on their DWP or HMRC state benefits and partly on a property's energy rating. If you either get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or are on a low income and have high household energy costs, you should be eligible.
As was also the case last winter, the amount you get includes a Pensioner Cost of Living Payment. This is between £150 and £300, taking the total to between £250 and £600, depending on when you were born and your circumstances between September 18 to 24, 2023. This is called the qualifying week.
