Seven men have been remanded in custody after being charged with the attempted murder of a senior Northern Ireland detective

The so-called New IRA said it carried out the attack, with police looking into whether the group may have been helped by members of a gang.Those who appeared via video link at Dungannon Magistrates' Court on Monday morning were:• Brian Carron, 38, of Claremount Drive, Coalisland• Robert McLean, 29, Deverney Park, OmaghCarron and Coyle stand further accused of belonging to a proscribed organisation, namely the IRA.Coyle, James Ivor McLean and McGinty all had bail applications refused.
All the men spoke to confirm their age, addresses and that they understood the charges against them, apart from Carron, who did not respond. Mr Caldwell initially spent several weeks in intensive care following the shooting, but was later discharged, and has since made a public appearance at a garden party celebrating a visit to Northern Ireland by the King and Queen.
