A police incident involving a car and motorbike collision on the M66 northbound is causing severe traffic delays. Two lanes remain closed, resulting in queues on the M60 and M62.
Motorists are facing severe rush-hour delays on the M66 this morning due to a police incident. Traffic has been stopped on the northbound carriageway in the direction of Rossendale between J4 for the M62 and J3 for Pilsworth. Drivers are unable to join the M66 from the M62 as a result of the incident which was first reported at around 7.30am. Queues are also forming on the M60 and M62 approaching Simister Island as a result of the incident.
Traffic monitoring system Inrix also reports delays on the M66 southbound passing the scene as onlookers slow to view. National Highways has issued an update saying one lane has reopened between J4 and J3, however two lanes still remain shut. 2 lanes (of 3) remain closed at this time whilst emergency services are still on scene.
