Severe storms Monday afternoon, night in Chicago
CHICAGO -- Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Monday afternoon and evening in the Chicago area, especially for locations north and west of the city. Some storms might become severe, producing damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Although the threat is low, an isolated tornado is also possible. The reason for the severe risk is a warm southerly wind boosting highs in the mid-80s and a disturbance rolling in from the west. This combination allows for the chance of thunderstorms.
Better chances for storms arrive Tuesday night as a cold front approaches the area. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Tuesday night into Wednesday morning along that front. We'll dry out behind the cold front during the afternoon hours of Wednesday. Dry and cooler for Thursday and Friday, with highs in the 70s.ForecastToday: Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Some could be severe, especially north and west of Chicago. High 85.
