Scotland faces heavy rain, wind and snow warnings over Hogmanay, New Year's Day and January 2nd. The inclement weather has led to cancellations of Hogmanay events and disruptions to transportation services.
Weather warnings for rain, wind and snow are in force across Scotland throughout Hogmanay , New Years Day and January 2. Warnings are currently in place across the entire country for wind, snow and rain which is set to hit over Hogmanay , New Years Day and Thursday, January 2. The west of Scotland will see the worst of the inclement weather with heavy rain to batter the regions until around 5pm this evening.
The amber weather warning for Moray and the Highlands is 'likely to cause some property flooding and travel disruption'. Further north in Orkney and Shetland, a yellow warning for snow is set to be in place until midnight tonight. Throughout the entire day there is a yellow warning for heavy and large dumps of snow for northern Scotland, which could hit transport links in the run up to the bells tonight. Organisers announced on Monday afternoon that the street party, outdoor concert and fireworks display would be cancelled due to bad weather, a day after a fall of debris being blown onto the railway between Annan and Dumfries. A response team are on their way to inspect the line and remove this as soon as we can. Commuters have been warned services may be 'cancelled, delayed or revised' after flooding at Carfin. Scotrail tweeted: 'Due to flood water making the railway potentially unsafe at Carfin the line is closed. Train services between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts may be cancelled, delayed or revised..' We’re responding to reports of flooding at Carfin on the Glasgow Central – Edinburgh Waverley via Shotts line. The line has been closed in both directions until our engineers can inspect the track for damage. We’ll share more information soon. Police Scotland said shortly after 11am on Tuesday the A832 Fortrose to Avoch road on the Black Isle is closed. The force said in a statement: 'The road is likely to remain closed for some time.
