A Coastguard helicopter was part of a rapid multi-agency response

In a dramatic sea rescue near the Welsh resort of Conwy, an individual battling severe hypothermia was saved after being spotted by a vigilant member of the public. The incident, which occurred approximately 12:30pm yesterday near Colwyn Bay pier, initiated a swift and full-scale multi-agency response featuring a Coastguard helicopter, which has been credited with saving the life of the person involved, who has been locally reported to be female.

The casualty was severely hypothermic and we assisted with casualty care until paramedics and the Coastguard helicopter arrived on scene. 'We cleared an area of beach for the Coastguard helicopter to land and then carried the casualty to the helicopter.' Following the successful operation, the Coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon made a careful landing west of Colwyn Bay pier. Having securely boarded the individual, they were swiftly flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor.
