Severn Trent has been approved to invest £980 million in Derbyshire over the next five years, with the potential to create up to 7,000 jobs. The water industry regulator, Ofwat, has given its support for this £15 billion investment plan across the region. The investment aims to improve customer service, boost water supplies, and enhance river health.
Neil Morrison, Severn Trent's HR director and customer experience lead for Derbyshire, stated that this approval will have a significant positive impact on customers, rivers, and the environment. By 2030, the company aims to reduce its responsibility for rivers not achieving good ecological status to less than 2%. The investment will also support new apprenticeships and skills programs. Severn Trent is currently recruiting for 49 new jobs in Derbyshire as part of a £52 million project to install 110 miles of new water pipes, which will help reduce leaks, saving customers water and minimizing supply interruptions. Morrison emphasized the company's commitment to improving rivers through its ambitious investment plans and its continued partnership with river users and communities. The company's community fund, launched in 2020, has already awarded over £1 million to 97 organizations in Derbyshire, including support during the coronavirus pandemic. This new investment will continue to secure funding for local charities, with a share of a new £10 million Community Fund
