Sexual assault reports have surged in NSW just two weeks after the introduction of a new anonymous online reporting system

More than 300 reports have been lodged with NSW Police through the anonymous online portal since its launch earlier this month – nearly a third of the 936 total reports made last year.

Police Minister and Deputy Premier Paul Toole said the increase in sexual assault reports showed the new online system was working. “By creating a safe space for victims to report their experiences, more people are feeling empowered to come forward,” he said. She said the data collected may also throw a spotlight on “where we might have more barriers that we need to address” to support victims to come forward.
