Willie Collum , the head of refereeing for the Scottish Football Association ( SFA ), has apologized to former assistant referee Ross Haswell after WhatsApp messages mocking Haswell's weight were leaked online. Collum sent the messages in a group chat called 'Referee Operations' which included other high-profile referees. Screenshots of the chat show Collum reacting to a GIF of Haswell with laughing emojis and the comment: 'I'm shocked at the size of him.
' Collum has confirmed he spoke to Haswell to offer his apologies and said the comments were not intended to be insensitive. He admitted he should have expressed himself differently. Collum's superiors at the SFA have also been made aware of the messages and have reminded staff of their communication responsibilities.
