BREAKING: Shamima Begum will not be allowed to return to the UK, the Special Immigration Appeals Commission has ruled. The court decided to dismiss the 23-year-old's appeal on all grounds 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube

Court refuses to return Begum's citizenship - but is the ruling that surprising? She is currently living in a refugee camp in northern Syria, and the decision essentially leaves her stateless. "The security that I spoke to ahead of the ruling did feel that probably she would have her British nationality restored because the feeling was that perhaps it was legally untenable to keep it revoked.

The specialist tribunal, which hears challenges to decisions to remove someone's British citizenship over national security concerns, decided to dismiss the 23-year-old's appeal on all grounds. Rejecting the IS bride's appeal essentially dismisses the argument put forward by her lawyers that she was a victim of child trafficking, Sky News correspondent Ashna Hurynag said.

Her lawyers argued she was"cynically recruited and groomed" by IS so that she could be"married off" to an older man, within days of arrival in their territory. The government's modern slavery strategy, introduced in November 2014, imposed the obligation to pursue perpetrators, prevent engagement in slavery or exploitation, and improve the identification of victims.

"It is clear that ISIS deliberately and successfully recruited underage girls for the purpose of sexual exploitation and in particular for the purpose of child marriage - which, under international law, is considered a forced marriage - and the bearing of children, which was an important feature of its state-building project."

He told the panel:"You can be trafficked in the most ghastly, unacceptable way, exposed in the most unacceptable way, desensitised in the most unacceptable way and yet unfortunately still be a security threat." "The priority to me would have always been the children," she added, explaining that they are now stateless.

Asked about whether she should be allowed to return to the UK, Veterans' affairs minister Johnny Mercer told GB News:"That's a decision for the home secretary and previous home secretaries." "I don't think it is worth discussing it in public. Those decisions are made in the courts and in the Home Office, and I'm sure they'll come to the right conclusion."Shamima Begum dropped out of Bethnal Green Academy with friends Amira Abase and Kadiza Sultana, and on 17 February, they all travelled from Gatwick Airport to Istanbul in Turkey.
