The 24-year-old was stripped of her citizenship after leaving the UK to join ISIS
Shamima Begum has lost an appeal against the decision to revoke her citizenship Shamima Begum will not be allowed to appeal the removal of her British citizenship, the Supreme Court has ruled.
Ms Begum had hoped to challenge the government’s decision to revoke her citizenship on national security grounds but justices at the UK’s highest court ruled that the grounds of her case “do not raise an arguable point of law”.after she travelled to Syria to join the Islamic State in 2015, aged 15.
Dismissing her Court of Appeal challenge in February, the Lady Chief Justice Baroness Carr, said: “It could be argued the decision in Ms Begum’s case was harsh. “It could also be argued that Ms Begum is the author of her own misfortune, but it is not for this court to agree or disagree with either point of view.“Since it was not, Ms Begum’s appeal is dismissed.”
