The Union-Tribune is collecting anecdotes from readers about the joy of life at land’s end.

San Diego Junior Lifeguard Interns jump into the ocean from the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier near the end of the four-week Junior Lifeguard training on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in San Diego, CA. The jump took place at the Scripps Pier in La Jolla because the regular location, the Ocean Beach Pier is closed to to storm damage. There are five ocean piers on the San Diego County coastline, and pretty much everyone has a favorite.

We know that some of you have poignant memories of finding summer love at places like Oceanside, La Jolla and Imperial Beach. Others light up when you recall spending hours leaning on a pier railing with a fishing line cast into the sea. Many of you enter a dream state when recalling your best days surfing pier-side.

And with several of the piers’ futures in flux, plenty of you have hopes and visions for what you’d like those to be. The San Diego Union-Tribune is seeking such memories and ideas for a story to be published later this summer, and we’d like you to be part of it.

We have summarized this news so that you can read it quickly. If you are interested in the news, you can read the full text here. Read more:
