Heartbroken Australian sprinter Ebony Lane has taken a shot at selectors after missing out on a spot in the 4x100m Olympic relay team. Australia had the option of several runners for the event, but Lane was left searching for answers after she was the unlucky omission. Ella Connolly, Bree Masters, Kristie Edwards and Torrie Lewis were the four chosen for Thursday’s heats and they were fifth across the line with a time of 42.75. America blitzed the field with a 41.
83 at the World Relay Championships to book their ticket to Paris. But Edwards replaced Lane for the meet in London on the eve of the Olympics, where they set another record of 42.48, and selectors stuck with that team. Lane was left “heartbroken” by the decision. “Heartbroken. Sadly I was not selected to compete in the starting 4 for the 4x100m relay today,” she wrote on Instagram. “I feel I had done enough to be in that team with the season I had.
