Shaun Rooney leaves St Mirren by 'mutual consent', the Paisley club announces in the wake of an assault charge for the defender
The full-back made just 10 appearances for St Mirren after joining in the summer under freedom of contract.
A brief statement from the Scottish Premiership club states they will be making "no further comment" on the matter. Manager Stephen Robinson did address the impact of Rooney's departure at a later media conference, saying: "It leaves us slightly short but we will be fine. "Shaun is obviously a very good player and he is a loss to any team, but we’ve got a lot of competition in that position. It's a chance for somebody else to really take it by the scruff of the neck.
"It's not been a shock and something sudden with him leaving. It's been four or five weeks and we've got a massive squad there and everyone's very together.
