Alan Shearer has selected three Nottingham Forest players for his team of the season as the Reds continue to excel at the top of the Premier League table. The Newcastle and England icon faced the challenging task of choosing an XI from the abundance of world-class talent for Betfair, but three Reds earned a spot. Shearer began by choosing Matz Sels in goal, acknowledging his impressive performances this season in a robust defense at the City Ground.
Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool was his pick at right-back, while his Reds teammate Virgil van Dijk was a predictable choice to play at center-back. Partnering the Liverpool colossus in the heart of the defense was Nikola Milenkovic, who has been exceptional since his summer move to the City Ground. Fulham's Antonee Robinson was Shearer's selection at left-back, and the midfield featured Moses Caicedo of Chelsea and Ryan Gravenberch of Liverpool. In a 4-2-3-1 formation, Mo Salah, currently leading the Premier League goalscorers, was given a place on the right, with Chelsea's Cole Palmer playing as the number 10. Bryan Mbeumo was included on the left-hand side, and Forest striker Chris Wood completed the team. Wood has been remarkable for Forest this season, scoring nine goals, and was chosen ahead of Manchester City's Erling Haaland despite the Norwegian having scored 13 times in the top flight this season.
