Sheffield United's Harry Souttar suffered a worrying injury during their Boxing Day defeat to Burnley, leaving boss Chris Wilder concerned. The result allowed Leeds United to close the gap in the Championship promotion race.
One of Leeds United's title rivals are sweating over the fitness of their top defender. Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder said he is concerned over the severity of the injury Harry Souttar suffered in the 2-0 defeat to Burnley on Boxing Day. The Blades lost at home to their Championship promotion rivals with Josh Brownhill and Zian Flemming on target for the visitors.
The chance to open up a six-point gap over the Whites was subsequently squandered with Daniel Farke's side set to take full advantage. A brace from Joel Piroe secured a 2-0 win for United at Stoke City in the 8pm kick-off with a victory putting both teams on a tally of 48 points. While Farke was able to rest some key players such as Ao Tanaka, with the likes of Wilfried Gnonto and Patrick Bamford also on the bench, Wilder does not seemingly have that luxury and now one of his key players looks to have picked up a worrying injury. Upon revealing that midfielder Vini Souza also had some tightness in his hamstring, Wilder added on Souttar: 'There might be a big blow with Souttar because that didn't look great and his reaction to coming off wasn't good. 'He's a brave old soldier, but that didn't look great. So we'll have to wait and see what the results of the scans are. It doesn't look good, but we'll see what happens when the results of the scan come through. We also lost Rhys Norrington-Davies to illness and Rhian (Brewster) wasn't great over the last couple of days.
