Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was astonishingly booked after he was pushed to the ground by Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson at Goodison Park
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been told there was not enough in the push from Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson to warrant his dismissal on Saturday afternoon.
In a bizarre incident as a throw-in took place, Robinson appeared to see red as he turned and forcefully pushed Calvert-Lewin to the ground in plain sight of the fourth official and assistant referee. After consulting with his colleagues, referee Stuart Attwell chose to book both men for the incident despite the Everton man seemingly not doing anything wrong.
Manager Sean Dyche was perplexed on the touchline by the call but it has now transpired why the incident occurred and the reason both players received cautions. Speaking on Sky Sports' Ref Watch, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher said: "This is an interesting clip because if you watch this, I think Robinson is of the opinion that Calvert-Lewin has thrown an elbow at him.
"He is just concentrating on Calvert-Lewin all the time." While many Blues fans felt Robinson should have been sent off for the shove, Gallagher admitted the yellow card was the right call because there was little in the push to warrant a red. Robinson remaining on the pitch did not alter the outcome of the game as Abdoulaye Doucoure's goal on the half-hour mark secured the three points.
