A former substitute teacher in the Wheatland-Chili Central School District faces charges after he allegedly touched three elementary students inappropriately.
Robert Petit, 40, of Chili, was arrested Wednesday, May 22, 2024, after a grand jury indictment accused him of inappropriately touching three elementary students while working as a substitute teacher in the Wheatland-Chili Central School District.
According to the sheriff's office, grand jury laws are such that the agency was legally prevented from sharing any information about the case with the public. "We have to work within the system, and we’re looking at it trying to do what we can," said Fowler. "We’ve seen over the past several years a shift in law enforcement in how we handle significant felony cases, particularly since the discovery reform in New York State laws, more complex felony cases such as these are very difficult timelines to meet. Difficult timelines for the people to be prepared for trial; that’s really what we’re up against.
