A man was arrested after reportedly leading Franklin County deputies on a pursuit throughout Columbus in a stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — spotted the driver of a Jeep on Cleveland Avenue and Huy Road in the North Linden area, A dispatcher with the Columbus Division of Police said the vehicle was reported stolen.
The sheriff's office said the driver, identified as 45-year-old Adam Garber, did not stop and a pursuit happened. The chase reached speeds of 100 mph. The Columbus police dispatcher said officers were called to assist with the pursuit when the suspect vehicle traveled through Stelzer and McCutcheon roads near Easton.
The pursuit ended on South Hamilton Road and Gerling Boulevard just south of Refugee Road near southeast Columbus. The sheriff’s office said the suspect left his vehicle and ran to Big Walnut Creek. He jumped off the bridge into the water to try and avoid arrest. Deputies called the Columbus Division of Fire Water Rescue Team for assistance to search the creek. After about 30 minutes, Garber was found clinging to a tree branch. The rescue team pulled Garber out of the water and he was taken into custody.He is charged with receiving stolen property and failure to comply. He is expected to appear in Franklin County Municipal Court on Wednesday.
