Actress Alison O'Donnell has spoken out about her co-star Dougie Henshall's exit from the BBC show Shetland - with the actor leaving the show over two years ago.
Alison O'Donnell has recently shared details about her experience working alongside Dougie Henshall on the beloved show Shetland for the first time.
In the crime drama, Alison took on the role of Detective Sergeant Alison "Tosh" McIntosh, forming an impressive duo with Dougie's character. When Dougie exited Shetland after season seven, producers cast Ashley Jensen as DI Ruth Calder in the eighth installment, taking a significant risk with this major casting change, despite the show's large and dedicated audience.
Despite concerns over altering the lineup, the decision to introduce Ashley Jensen's character DI Ruth Calder has been validated with time. The series continues to flourish, surprising even avid fans such as Lorraine with how enjoyable the refreshed dual female lead cast has proven to be, reports the Mirror.
She went on to praise the revamped show, adding: "And it works beautifully." She even compared the two female stars to "Shetland's Cagney and Lacey". As viewers were shown an image of Alison and Ashley, Lorraine observed: "Look at them there. But it has worked really well and it's a totally different dynamic."
